Qatar Emiri Air Force combat record

Every war the Qatar Emiri Air Force has fought

Qatar publishes almost no figures for its own air operations, and no Qatari sortie count was found for any of these campaigns. The Iranian missile strike on Al Udeid in June 2025 is given with both sides’ accounts: Qatar said one missile hit and no one was hurt, while Iran’s Revolutionary Guard called it a powerful and devastating attack. In 2026 Qatar’s defence ministry said its air force shot down two Iranian Su-24s, and Iran’s UN envoy called Iran’s strikes lawful, necessary and proportionate; Qatar denied reports from Western diplomats that it had struck Iran. Where a consolidated sortie or loss figure exists in the official record it is given here; where accounts disagree, the range is shown and the disagreement named. Blank cells are blank because no figure could be verified, not because the fighting was small.

From the Gulf War of 1991 to the Iranian strikes of 2026.

Flew strikes against Iraqi forces as part of the US-led coalition; Qatari ground forces fought at Khafji.

Qatar sent about 2,600 personnel to the coalition, according to Wikipedia. GlobalSecurity says that from 22 January 1991 Qatari aircraft joined other coalition air forces in strikes against Iraqi forces; at the time the strike fleet was the Mirage F1 and Alpha Jet, so those are the likely types, though no source reached names them. Qatar’s best-documented combat was on the ground: two AMX-30 tank companies took part in the retaking of Khafji alongside Saudi forces, and Wikipedia says they destroyed three Iraqi T-55s and captured a fourth.

Исход Iraq was expelled from Kuwait by the end of February 1991.

Aircraft types and sortie numbers for the Qatari air arm could not be confirmed; the casualty statements of GlobalSecurity and Wikipedia differ.

Libyan no-fly zoneОперация «Единый защитник»Qatar Emiri Air Force 2011 Libyan government forces of Muammar Gaddafi Mirage 2000-5EDA, C-17A — 0

Enforced the UN no-fly zone alongside NATO; Qatar was the first Arab country to send aircraft.

Wikipedia says Qatar deployed six Mirage 2000-5EDA fighters and two C-17s to Crete in March 2011. On 25 March US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton praised the UAE as the second Arab country after Qatar to send planes, as reported by Al Jazeera. NATO lists Qatar among the partner nations of Operation Unified Protector, which ran from 31 March to 31 October 2011. Qatar’s role went beyond the air: Wikipedia, citing published reporting, says Qatari special forces trained rebel units in Benghazi, the Nafusa mountains and the Tripoli Brigade. The campaign was the Mirage 2000-5’s only combat deployment and the first in which the QEAF flew alongside NATO.

Исход The Gaddafi government fell; NATO ended the operation on 31 October 2011.

The number of Qatari sorties and whether the Mirages flew strike missions or only no-fly-zone patrols could not be confirmed.

Campaign against the Islamic State in SyriaUS-led coalition, Operation Inherent ResolveQatar Emiri Air Force 2014 Islamic State (ISIL) Mirage 2000-5EDA — —

Listed among the Arab states taking part in the first coalition strikes in Syria; its exact role is not confirmed here.

Wikipedia lists Qatar with the US, Bahrain, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the UAE as the states that began attacking ISIL in Syria on 22–23 September 2014. It does not say whether Qatari aircraft dropped weapons or flew in support, and the US Central Command statement could not be reached for this page. Qatar’s larger contribution was its territory: Al Udeid, which has hosted the US combined air operations centre since 2003, according to Wikipedia.

Исход Al Udeid has hosted the coalition’s air operations centre throughout.

Qatar’s role (strike or support) is unconfirmed; the aircraft type is assumed from the fleet at the time.

Saudi-led intervention in YemenOperation Decisive Storm and afterQatar Emiri Air Force 2015–2017 Движение хуситов (Ансар Аллах) Mirage 2000-5EDA — —

Contributed aircraft, and later troops, to the Saudi-led coalition until it was expelled in June 2017.

Wikipedia lists Qatari planes among those taking part when the coalition began air strikes in March 2015; Al Jazeera’s report of 26 March 2015 gives aircraft numbers for other states, from Saudi-owned Al Arabiya, but not for Qatar. After the September 2015 attack on the coalition base at Safer, Qatar sent about 1,000 troops, according to Wikipedia. On 5 June 2017 Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt cut ties with Qatar, and the coalition said Qatar was no longer welcome; Yemen’s government accused Qatar of working with the Houthis, which Qatar rejected, calling the measures unjustified and based on claims without foundation. The coalition campaign as a whole has been the subject of UN and human-rights investigations; no finding specific to Qatari aircraft was found.

Исход Qatar’s participation ended when the coalition announced on 5 June 2017 that Qatar was no longer welcome.

The number and type of Qatari aircraft were not confirmed.

Guarded the tournament with Qatari fast-jet squadrons and RAF 12 Squadron Typhoons.

For the World Cup of November–December 2022, the joint UK–Qatar No. 12 Squadron flew eight Typhoons from Dukhan Air Base alongside the QEAF’s own fast-jet squadrons, in a counter-terrorism security role, and logged 114 operational hours, according to the UK government. The operation was the first large-scale test of the new fighter fleet in a live security mission.

Исход Completed without incident, according to the UK MoD.

Qatari aircraft types used are inferred from the fleet; the UK source does not name them.

Iranian missile strike on Al Udeid"Operation Annunciation of Victory" (IRGC name)Qatar Armed Forces air defence 2025 Iran (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) — — 0

Qatari air defences engaged Iranian ballistic missiles fired at the US-used base.

On the evening of 23 June 2025, after US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard fired ballistic missiles at Al Udeid. Al Jazeera quotes Qatari officials as saying that at 19:30 they received reports of seven missiles launched towards the base; the Interior Ministry later said 19 had been fired and that one hit the base. The defence ministry said its air defences intercepted the missiles and that there were no deaths or injuries, and officials said the base had been evacuated beforehand. Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari called the attack a flagrant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and airspace. The IRGC described a powerful and devastating attack; Wikipedia, citing Iranian state media, says Iran fired at least six missiles. Wikipedia also reports satellite imagery showing a destroyed radome at the base.

Исход Not a QEAF air engagement as far as published sources show.

Missile counts differ: seven and 19 (Qatari statements) and at least six (Iranian state media, via Wikipedia). Whether QEAF aircraft took part was not stated.

Иранская война 2026 годаIranian strikes on QatarQatar Emiri Air Force and air defence 2026 Иран F-15QA, Рафале, Еврофайтер Тайфун — 0

Defended Qatar against Iranian aircraft, missiles and drones; the air force says it shot down two Su-24s.

The war began on 28 February 2026 with US and Israeli strikes on Iran, which Al Jazeera reports killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Iran answered with strikes across the Gulf states; its UN envoy called the response lawful, necessary and proportionate and said it targeted only the military objectives of hostile forces. On 2 March Qatar’s defence ministry said the air force had downed two Su-24s and intercepted seven ballistic missiles and five drones, and that Iranian drones had hit a power-plant water tank at Mesaieed and an energy facility at Ras Laffan without casualties; QatarEnergy halted production. Qatar’s foreign ministry wrote that the "Qatar Emiri Air Force successfully shot down two (SU24) aircraft coming from the Islamic Republic of Iran". The ministry did not name the Qatari aircraft; Wikipedia, citing CNN, says an F-15QA made the kills. Al Jazeera later published imagery of the wreckage of one Su-24MK. On 4 March Al Jazeera reported an Iranian missile hitting a base housing US troops in Qatar, with no casualties reported. Wikipedia reports that Western diplomats said Qatar had struck Iran; Qatar denied joining the campaign against Iran.

Исход A US–Iran ceasefire took effect on 8 April 2026 (The War Zone); Wikipedia says it later broke down, but gives inconsistent dates.

The Qatari aircraft type that shot down the Su-24s is reported by CNN (via Wikipedia) but not by Qatar’s ministry. The claim that Qatar struck Iran is attributed to unnamed Western diplomats and denied by Qatar. Later phases of the war are not covered.
