Brazilian Naval Aviation combat record

Every war and operation Brazilian Naval Aviation has flown in

Brazilian naval aviators trained with the Allies in the First World War and some flew with the Royal Air Force, while the Navy’s own aircraft stayed at home; the only fighting by its own aircraft in this record is the Constitutionalist Revolution of 1932, whose account rests on English Wikipedia citing a single modern history. Since then the record is a UN maritime mission off Lebanon and relief flying at home. Brazil was neutral in the 1982 war between the United Kingdom and Argentina over the islands Britain calls the Falkland Islands and Argentina the Islas Malvinas. Where a consolidated sortie or loss figure exists in the official record it is given here; where accounts disagree, the range is shown and the disagreement named. Blank cells are blank because no figure could be verified, not because the fighting was small.

From the First World War in 1917 to the Rio Grande do Sul floods in 2024.

Brazilian naval aviators trained with Allied air services and some flew with the Royal Air Force; the Navy’s own aircraft stayed at home.

The FGV history of naval aviation records officers sent to Britain, France and Italy for advanced instruction, and three groups attached to the RAF; the Força Aeronaval’s own history says naval aviators took part in First World War operations with the RAF. The Navy’s ships of the DNOG squadron served off West Africa under British command, according to Wikipedia, but no naval aircraft went with them.

حصيلة Brazil recognised a state of war with Germany on 26 October 1917; the naval aviators returned with training that shaped the service in the 1920s.

The names of the officers who flew operationally, and what they flew, were not established from the sources checked.

Naval flying boats and scouts supported the federal blockade of São Paulo’s coast.

Three Savoia-Marchetti S.55A flying boats (numbers 1, 4 and 8) and two Martin PMs (111 and 112) left Galeão on 12 July 1932 and were based temporarily at São Sebastião island near Vila Bela, today’s Ilhabela, to support the blockade. Vought O2U-2A Corsair scout biplanes worked from an enlarged airstrip at Vila Bela. The campaign, fought by separate army and naval air arms, became part of the case for a single air force in 1941.

حصيلة استسلمت ساو باولو في 2 أكتوبر 1932.

The account rests on English Wikipedia, which cites a single modern history of the air war.
