Daedalus T-6A Demo Team: how the team came to be and what it flies today

Instructors from Kalamata

The Daedalus team was set up in 2005, restoring an official Hellenic Air Force aerobatic presence after an absence of almost four decades. Two USAF instructors trained five Greek instructor pilots from 361 Squadron at Kalamata in display flying, starting on 26 July 2005, and two were selected as display pilots. The first public display followed on 18 September 2005 at the Archangel international air show at Tanagra. The name refers to the craftsman of Greek myth who made wings: the team’s instructor pilots, like Daedalus, give wings to their students.

Twenty years of Daedalus

The team flies one Beechcraft T-6A Texan II of 120 Air Training Wing, with a sequence including the Texas sidewinder, fish hook, reverse half Cuban eight and opposing rolls. For its tenth anniversary in 2015 the aircraft received a black, white, blue and gold scheme with the Greek flag and images from the Icarus myth. It is described as the longest-lived display team in Hellenic Air Force history and appears regularly at Greek shows such as Athens Flying Week as well as abroad.
