Josh Cartu is a businessman, Ferrari Club president and race car driver who flew a MiG-29 Edge of Space flight with MiGFlug, captured in a full-length video. He is known in the motorsport and Ferrari collector community and shared his stratosphere flight experience publicly.
What is the MiG-29 Edge of Space flight?
It is a civilian flight in a two-seat MiG-29 Fulcrum, flown by a professional pilot to the edge of space at around 22 km altitude, where the sky turns black and the curvature of the Earth is visible. MiGFlug operates these MiG-29 Edge of Space flights for adventure-seekers.
How high does the MiG-29 Edge of Space flight go?
The MiG-29 climbs to roughly 22 kilometres (about 72,000 feet), well into the stratosphere and around twice the altitude of an airliner. From there passengers can see the curvature of the Earth and the darkness of space above.
Can the MiG-29 break the sound barrier on these flights?
Yes. The MiG-29 is capable of about Mach 2.25, more than twice the speed of sound, so edge-of-space flights combine supersonic speed with extreme altitude, a combination very few aircraft available to civilians can offer.
How are fighter jet flights filmed?
Operators mount external cameras on the airframe. On the MiG-29UB Fulcrum used for Edge of Space flights, cameras are attached outside the aircraft, while cockpit cameras capture the passenger, producing full-length flight videos as a keepsake.
