Fly Together: Group and Formation Jet Flights

A fighter jet flight is unforgettable on its own. But there is something special about not doing it alone — about turning up with your friends, your team, or your family, sharing the nerves and the grins, and walking away with a story you all lived together.

That is what this Inside MiGFlug piece is about: the two ways you can take to the sky as a group, and why flying together makes an extraordinary experience even better.

Two ways to share the sky

Broadly, there are two flavours of “flying together”, and which one you choose mostly depends on the location and the aircraft.

The first is the showstopper: a real formation flight, with two jets airborne at the same time. The second works anywhere, even where only one jet flies at a time: come as a group, share the whole experience on the ground, and take turns in the cockpit.

Formation flying: wingtip to wingtip

Flying in close formation is, simply, a ton of fun — and it makes the whole experience even more extraordinary. Instead of a jet and an empty sky, you look across and there is your friend, in their own aircraft, just metres off your wing. You get to watch each other fly, and you come home with genuine air-to-air photos and footage of the two jets together that no single-ship flight can match.

Formation flights are possible at a number of MiGFlug locations — for example at Augsburg in Germany — and on request at Riga in Latvia and in Poland. Because the available aircraft and slots shift through the year, the best move is simply to ask us for the latest: tell us where and when you'd like to fly, and we'll confirm what's possible.

Coming as a group: brief together, fly one by one

Not every location flies two jets at once — and that's absolutely no reason to come alone. For those single-jet operations, it is always possible to arrive as a group, do the briefing and all the preparations together, and then fly one after another.

Honestly, this is more fun than it sounds. You share the build-up, the pre-flight briefing and the suiting-up; you cheer each other’s take-offs and watch the aerobatics from the ground; and between flights there's the swapping of stories that every pilot knows is half the experience. By the end of the day everyone has flown, everyone has watched, and the whole group has the same once-in-a-lifetime memory.

Related Questions

Can you fly fighter jets in formation?

Yes. At several MiGFlug locations you can fly in close formation with a second jet, so you and a friend share the same sky at the same time — wingtip to wingtip — with each of you getting unforgettable air-to-air photos and video of the other aircraft. Formation flying is offered at selected bases such as Augsburg in Germany, and on request in Riga (Latvia) and Poland. Availability varies by season, so it's best to ask us for the current options.

Can a group book jet flights together?

Absolutely — and it's one of the best ways to do it. Even at locations that fly a single jet at a time, your whole group can come together, share the pre-flight briefing and preparations, watch each other take off and land, and then fly one after another. The shared experience on the ground is a huge part of the fun.

Where can I do a formation flight with MiGFlug?

Formation flights are available at selected MiGFlug locations such as Augsburg, with further options in Riga and Poland on request. Because the available aircraft and slots change through the year, get in touch and we'll confirm exactly what's possible for your preferred dates and place.

Is it more expensive to fly as a group?

Not necessarily. Coming as a group around a single jet simply means you each book your own flight and enjoy the day together. A true two-ship formation flight involves a second aircraft and crew, so it is a separate, premium experience — tell us your group size and what you have in mind, and we'll give you the best package and price.
