Where can you fly in a fighter jet as a civilian?

Civilian fighter jet flights are offered at select airfields worldwide, mostly across Europe and the United States. Operators arrange rides in jets such as the MiG-29, Hawker Hunter and L-39 Albatros from bases in countries including Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Russia. Availability shifts over time as aircraft retire and regulations change. Prices vary widely by jet and location.

Can a normal person fly in a fighter jet without being a pilot?

Yes. You need no pilot licence or military background to fly in a two-seat fighter jet. A professional pilot flies the aircraft while you ride in the second seat and can take the controls during parts of the flight. Basic medical fitness and meeting height and weight limits are usually the only requirements. Almost anyone can do it.

What is a zero-gravity flight?

A zero-gravity flight recreates weightlessness by flying an aircraft along a series of parabolic arcs. As the plane pushes over the top of each arc and descends, passengers float freely for roughly 20 to 30 seconds at a time, the same sensation astronauts feel in orbit. These flights are sold separately from fighter jet rides and depart from various locations.

What aircraft can civilians fly besides fighter jets?

Beyond fighter jets, civilians can book flights in warbirds, historic aircraft and aerobatic planes. Popular options include the P-51 Mustang, a legendary World War II fighter, along with jet trainers and aerobatic types. These give a different experience from supersonic jets but capture the feel of classic aviation, often at a lower price.

How high does a MiG-29 Edge of Space flight go?

A MiG-29 Edge of Space flight climbs to roughly 21,000 to 23,000 metres, about 70,000 feet, high in the stratosphere. From there you can see the curvature of the Earth and a black sky overhead even in daylight. The MiG-29 Fulcrum is the jet used for these stratospheric rides.
