Every war the Togolese Air Force has fought
Togo’s air arm never went to war before its campaign against JNIM along the border with Burkina Faso, which began in 2022. On 9 July 2022 a military air strike in the Savanes region killed seven teenagers, whom the army said had been mistaken for jihadists, as reported by Reuters and cited by Wikipedia; the aircraft used was not identified. Whether the gunships lost in April and October 2024 were combat losses is not stated in the sources checked, and the 2025 casualty figures are those of Africa Defense Forum and Amnesty International. Where a consolidated sortie or loss figure exists in the official record it is given here; where accounts disagree, the range is shown and the disagreement named. Blank cells are blank because no figure could be verified, not because the fighting was small.

Air strikes, armed drone and helicopter support to ground forces against jihadist groups crossing from Burkina Faso. Togo’s first jihadist attack came on 11 May 2022, when militants linked to al-Qaeda killed eight soldiers and wounded 13 in Kpendjal prefecture. Two months later, on 9 July 2022, a Togolese military air strike in the Savanes region killed seven teenagers and injured two others; the army said they had been mistaken for jihadists (Reuters, 14 July 2022, as cited by Wikipedia). The aircraft used was not identified in the sources checked. Bayraktar TB2 drones were acquired in August 2022, and Wikipedia’s TB2 article notes that buying from Turkey reduced Togo’s dependence on France. JNIM operates from south-eastern Burkina Faso; Africa Defense Forum reports that more than 60 people, including 54 civilians and eight soldiers, were killed in 15 incidents between 1 January and 30 July 2025, and that JNIM used a kamikaze drone for the first time in April 2025, injuring six soldiers. Amnesty International counts about 60 killed by armed groups in Savanes between January and August 2025 and notes that the state of security emergency was extended by a year in March 2025. Four Super Tucanos are intended for this fight. Resultaat Wordt vervolgd. Togo publishes almost nothing on air operations. The July 2022 strike is documented here only through Reuters as cited by Wikipedia; the Reuters page could not be opened. Casualty figures for 2025 are those of Africa Defense Forum and Amnesty International.
