National Aeronaval Service combat record

O antecessor de SENAN e a invasão de 1989

SENAN has no combat aircraft and no combat record of its own. The US invasion of 20 December 1989, which the United States called Operation Just Cause, is listed because it ended the Panama Defence Forces, whose air force is SENAN’s predecessor; what that air force’s aircraft did is not documented in the sources reached. The death toll depends on who counts: the US military gave 23 Americans killed and US Southern Command estimated 314 Defence Forces soldiers dead, while estimates of civilian deaths run from 202 (the Pentagon) to 3,000 (Ramsey Clark), and each figure is given with its source. Where a consolidated sortie or loss figure exists in the official record it is given here; where accounts disagree, the range is shown and the disagreement named. Blank cells are blank because no figure could be verified, not because the fighting was small.

The Panama Defence Forces, including their air force, were the invaded side. What the air force’s aircraft did, and what became of them, is not documented in the sources reached.

The United States committed 27,684 troops and more than 300 aircraft between 20 December 1989 and 31 January 1990. The civilian death toll remains disputed, and the figures above are each source’s own.

Resultado The Defence Forces were defeated and abolished on 10 February 1990; a 1994 constitutional amendment banned a standing army.

Kept because it ended SENAN’s military predecessor; SENAN itself did not exist and has no combat record.
