Ramex Delta: how the team came to be and what it flies today

Strike jets on show

Ramex Delta was the French Air Force’s tactical display pair drawn from escadron de chasse 2/4 La Fayette, which flew the Dassault Mirage 2000N, the two-seat low-level nuclear-strike version, from July 1989. The squadron moved from Luxeuil to Istres-Le Tubé in September 2011, and the display flew from there in its later years. In 2016 one of the squadron’s 2000Ns received a special scheme for the centenary of the Lafayette Escadrille and was flown by Ramex Delta at shows in France and abroad.

Last of the 2000N

The pair ended with the aircraft. The Mirage 2000N left service in 2018, and on 29 August 2018 a ceremony at Saint-Dizier marked 2/4 La Fayette’s conversion to the Rafale. By the Royal International Air Tattoo in July 2018 the Mirage 2000D pair Couteau Delta from Nancy had taken over, described by The Aviationist as replacing the famous Ramex Delta formation.
