Blue Phoenix: how the team came to be and what it flies today
A phoenix for the centenary
Blue Phoenix was formed at the beginning of 2012 to mark the centenary of Thai aviation, and English Wikipedia calls it the Royal Thai Air Force’s first formally constituted aerobatic team, heir to an earlier Flying School team disbanded decades before. The phoenix stands for the rebirth of RTAF display flying and for the service’s founders. The team flew its first public display on Children’s Day 2012 at Don Mueang.
Instructors at Kamphaeng Saen
The team belongs to the Flying Training School at Kamphaeng Saen Air Force Base in Nakhon Pathom, and its pilots are instructors from the school. It flies five Pilatus PC-9 trainers painted blue, white and red and fitted with white smoke generators.
