The requirements are light: you just need to be in reasonable general health – no serious back, heart or spinal problems, blood pressure under control, and no pregnancy. Glasses or contacts are fine. You’ll sign a short medical declaration that you can fill in yourself if you’re healthy; if in doubt, check with your doctor first.

Weight: A little extra around the middle is rarely an issue – the limiting factor is the harness belt around the upper leg. Guests of up to 300 pounds (136 kg) have flown with us. Height: Tall guests are usually fine with a long upper body; things get tight from around 6 ft 5 in (1.98 m). In that case, let us know your seated height – measured from the seat surface to the top of your head.

No pilot experience is needed. After the ground briefing, even complete beginners may take the controls of the L-39 in the air and fly it themselves. The more flight experience you bring, the more freedom and stick time you’ll typically get. You’re connected to the pilot via intercom for the entire flight, so he can adapt the program to how you’re feeling at any moment. reasonable general health is the only requirement.

The minimum age to fly in California is 18 years. There is no upper limit as long as you’re in reasonable general health – our oldest guest to date was nearly 97!

Your time in the air is 45 or 60 minutes, depending on the package you choose. On site, plan roughly 2.5 to 3 hours in total – that covers the briefing, suiting up, the flight itself, plus photos, your flight certificate and time to chat with the pilot afterwards.

A typical California flight day goes like this: you arrive, meet your pilot and get introduced to the L-39; you put on flight suit and helmet; together you decide how intense the aerobatics should be; the pilot walks you through the safety procedures and cockpit instruments; then it’s time to fly – maneuvers, stick time and sightseeing over Southern California; back on the ground you receive your certificate, and most guests linger to talk flying with the pilot.

Arrive at your booked time – that’s when you meet your pilot, not the take-off time, so there’s no need to come earlier. Just allow a buffer for LA traffic so you arrive relaxed. The briefing and gearing up follow, and the whole visit lasts about 2.5 to 3 hours.
