S.211. Italian Precision, Pure Jet Power.
Designed by SIAI-Marchetti in Italy and powered by the legendary Pratt & Whitney Canada turbofan, the S.211 was built for a single purpose: to turn student pilots into fighter pilots. Only 58 were ever produced. With its composite airframe, full aerobatic capability up to +7G, and a service ceiling of 40,000 feet, this is not a trainer that flies like a fighter — it is one.
An Italian Private Venture
When SIAI-Marchetti unveiled the S.211 at the 1977 Paris Air Show, it wasn’t backed by a government contract or a military commission — it was a private gamble, funded entirely by the company. Drawing on decades of building the legendary SF.260 piston trainer, the team applied the same philosophy to the jet age: clean lines, low weight, and a bulletproof Pratt & Whitney Canada turbofan. The result was one of the most elegant jet trainers ever built — adopted by Singapore, the Philippines and later evolved by Aermacchi into the M-345, the jet that will replace Italy’s Frecce Tricolori fleet.
- 1. Italian Engineering Pedigree
Designed by SIAI-Marchetti — makers of the legendary SF.260 — the S.211 brought the same philosophy of elegant simplicity to the jet age. Only 58 were ever built. - 2. Composite Airframe
Extensive use of Kevlar, Nomex and carbon fibre makes the S.211 lighter and stronger than conventional all-metal trainers — and gives it remarkably agile handling. - 3. Full Aerobatic Capability
Rated to +7G / −3.5G with boosted ailerons and push-pull rod controls, the S.211 flies more like a fighter than a trainer. Loops, rolls, Immelmanns — the full programme. - 4. Panoramic Canopy
A single-piece blown canopy stretches from nose to tail, giving the rear seat an almost helicopter-like field of view. No other jet in our fleet offers visibility like this. - 5. Proven Powerplant
The Pratt & Whitney Canada JT15D-4C turbofan — the same engine family that powers the Cessna Citation — delivers 2,500 lb of thrust with exceptional reliability. - 6. 40,000 ft Service Ceiling
Few trainers can reach FL400. The S.211 can — putting you above the weather and into the deep blue where the curvature of the Earth begins to appear.
S.211 Design and Airframe
The S.211’s design reflects a distinctly Italian approach to engineering: clean, efficient and nothing wasted. A single Pratt & Whitney Canada turbofan mounted in the rear fuselage, fed by lateral intakes behind the cockpit. Composite construction — Kevlar, Nomex and carbon fibre — keeps the airframe light and strong. Boosted ailerons and push-pull rod controls give it handling that feels closer to a fighter than a trainer. Only 58 were ever built near Milan, but the design proved so sound that Aermacchi evolved it into the M-345 — the jet that will equip Italy’s Frecce Tricolori display team.
S.211 operations worldwide
Only 58 S.211s were ever built — but what SIAI-Marchetti lacked in production numbers, it made up for in engineering. A composite airframe decades ahead of its time, a Pratt & Whitney turbofan trusted across the Citation family, and handling sharp enough to earn combat deployments in Southeast Asia. The interactive map below shows every nation where the S.211 has served.
S.211 Technical Data

Why the S.211 is a class apart
One of the rarest military jets available for civilian flight experiences anywhere in the world. With only 58 ever built, the S.211 offers something extraordinary — Italian precision engineering, a composite airframe, and a panoramic canopy that puts you closer to the sky than any other jet you can fly.
Flies Like a Fighter
Full aerobatic capability at +6G / −3G. Boosted ailerons, push-pull rod controls and a clean shoulder-wing profile give the S.211 handling closer to a combat aircraft than a training platform.
Made for the Alps
Available for jet flights from Augsburg near Munich — with access to a military training area. Low-level valley runs, tactical maneuvers between peaks, and 8,000 ft loops over the Bavarian Alps.
Unmatched Visibility
A single-piece blown canopy stretches from nose to tail, giving the rear seat an almost helicopter-like field of view. No other military jet available for civilian flights offers visibility like this.

It was aaaawesome and a great birthday surprise. Ben (pilot) and Carsten (crew) took excellent care of me. Thank you so much again for that.
