The story

French Air and Space Force Aerobatic Team: how the team came to be and what it flies today

Competition first

The team was established on 1 March 1968, following a ministerial decision of 24 October 1967, though air force pilots had flown international aerobatic competitions on the Nord 3202 since the early 1960s. It moved through the Stampe SV4 and, from 1970, the Mudry CAP 10, later the CAP 232, before adopting the German Extra 330SC. Unlike most military display units it is also a competition team, and by its fiftieth anniversary in 2018 it counted eight world titles, individual and team.

Today

Based at Salon-de-Provence alongside the Patrouille de France, it numbers about fifteen people: four pilots from fighter and transport backgrounds, seven mechanics, operations staff and two photographers. It flies three Extra 330s, two single-seaters and a two-seater, and appears at about forty air shows a year with solo and synchronised routines. In 2026 its pilot “Flo” held two world titles and won the French national championship before the August 2026 world championships.
