The Royal Malaysian Navy has patrolled the Gulf of Aden against piracy since 2009, according to Wikipedia; Naval News names the operation Fajar. In January 2011 pirates attacked the Malaysian-flagged chemical tanker Bunga Laurel, carrying lubricating oil and ethylene dichloride. Wikipedia says a Fennec was used to pin down the pirate mothership as navy commandos boarded the tanker, and the hijacking was foiled; Naval News’s 2019 account lists fire support in the Bunga Laurel recovery among the helicopters’ operations, together with the MV Abul Kalam Azad anti-piracy operation. The number of pirates captured or wounded was not confirmed from a source reached for this page and is left out. Outcome The Bunga Laurel hijacking was foiled in January 2011. Whether navy aircraft flew in the 2013 Lahad Datu operation in Sabah was not found in the sources reached; it is not listed here. No air incident involving Malaysian navy aircraft was found in the South China Sea, which is claimed in whole or in part by China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and the Philippines.
