Regional Security System Air Wing combat record

Every operation of the Regional Security System Air Wing

The Air Wing has never fought. Its standing operation is maritime counter-drug surveillance, with Joint Interagency Task Force South and the UK National Crime Agency, and its secondary work is search and rescue and disaster relief, including the response to the 2010 Haiti earthquake. The Regional Security System took part in the 1983 Grenada intervention, but the Air Wing did not exist until 1999, so that operation is not listed. Blank cells are blank because the RSS publishes no sortie or seizure figures.

Counter-drug patrols since 1999 and relief flights, including Haiti in 2010.

Maritime counter-drug operationsEastern Caribbean surveillance patrolsRegional Security System Air Wing 1999– Drug-trafficking networks C-26A 0

Maritime surveillance patrols to detect drug-smuggling vessels and cue coast guards and police; the RSS calls it the Air Wing’s primary mission.

The Air Wing was given its two C-26As in January 1999 for this task, but the RSS says it could do little until surveillance equipment was installed around 2005. Since then it has patrolled the sea lanes of the Eastern Caribbean for smuggling boats, working under agreements with Joint Interagency Task Force South, and the UK National Crime Agency. The RSS describes maritime counter-drug operations as the wing’s primary mission and counts just over 16,000 flight hours in all. It does not publish interceptions or seizures credited to the aircraft.

Outcome Continuing.

Not combat in the military sense; listed because it is the service’s standing operation. No seizure figures are published.

Search and rescue, damage assessment and relief flights after hurricanes, and support to the 2010 Haiti earthquake response.

The RSS lists search and rescue, fisheries protection, pollution control and disaster relief as the Air Wing’s secondary roles, and says it has supported hurricane relief and the response to the January 2010 earthquake in Haiti. The RSS as a whole has deployed after Hurricane Hugo in 1989, Hurricane Georges in 1998, the Haiti earthquake in 2010 and Hurricane Maria in 2017, according to Wikipedia; which of the earlier hurricane responses the Air Wing flew in is not specified. No Air Wing role after Hurricane Beryl in July 2024 was found in the sources checked.

Outcome Continuing as a secondary task.

The RSS names no specific hurricane flown by the Air Wing.
